It is indeed Maurice Ravel. Mechanically recorded on Duo-Art piano rolls in London, June 30, 1922. Piano rolls capture each piano note, hammer impact force and pedals position on a rolling paper with great accuracy. The roll can then be replayed on a piano that can play rolls. The technology was praised for preserving the personal characteristics of each pianist with wonderful accuracy. It was an electro-pneumatic technology. Having these rolls today we can record as if that pianist sat on that piano and played it today.
